Porter Performing Arts Center is the product of a collaboration between the Newton County Board of Education and Staff, the Newton County Board of Commissioners, the Newton College and Career Academy Board and Staff, and the Arts Association in Newton County’s Board and Staff, the Porter Performing Arts Center who are excited, after 16 years of dreams, to bring Newton County and the surrounding region a state of the art performing arts center, voted on with the 2005 SPLOST. A special word of thanks to the Newton County Board of Education Facilities Department and to previous Artistic and Technical Director for the Arts Association, Ric Chiapetta, for the design and expertise in making this dream a reality.

The Arts Association began conducting classes in the newly renovated and expanded Washington Street building on October 16, 2017. Not only does the property offer an entire city block of parking to enable easy and safe access for parents and students, but great effort was put forth by the Dobbs family and the Arts Association to retain as many of the original features of the building as possible, giving the desired retro-industrial style.
